The people that live in the Sahara desert consist of the Tuareg and the Bedouin tribes, which mainly herd cattle.
Human Activity Warming the World
There is an increase in infrared radiation escaping from the atmosphere into space. An indirect measure of how much heat is being trapped. There is an increase in the quantity of atmospheric CO2 and its trapping energy that used to break out and keeping it in the atmosphere as heat. Our activities are making the planet warmer, but it is not all humans, its the volcanoes as well. Polar ice will melt, the new darker surface takes in more heat from the sun and then warms the planet. A warmer world will evaporate more water from the oceans giving an extra nudge to warming. Some water vapor will turn to cloud and the net effect of cloudier skies on heat coming in and going out is blurry. Clouds reflect energy from the sun back into space but they also trap heat radiated from the surface.
- People use the Sahara to build homes out of the sand and to create communities in the Sahara.
- The Sahara is an area of largely uninterrupted habitat made up of sand and rock, but with small areas of vegetation. The most shame is found where water is present. Here habitats are altered by human activities. Previously existent tree cover has been taken out for fuel.
- From a conservation perspective, the Sahara Desert is not well protected. Yet, this may be due to the low population and not having definite borders. Fewer than two million dwellers live throughout the entire Sahara Desert. The mass of them are nomads, predominantly the Tuareg, Tibbu, and Moors. They survive by nomadic hunting and trading. Most of these people are found in the desert margins and they do not often spend much time in the central hyper-arid portion.
